I strongly believing in writing out of experience. In encompassing your own experience into the theme you simply make a more convincing argument for that theme.
It is really that simple!
This is has been the first question, every time I am about to write a diary here on DailyKos, that I ask myself. Can I be truly convincing about what I am arguing?
This is why, even though I strongly believe in women's rights and their right to abortion, I have never actually written for that argument, because I am a man, I cannot convincingly argue for that case...
This is why, even though I strongly believe in gay's right to equal marriage consideration, I have never actually written for that argument, because I am heterosexual, I cannot convincingly argue for that case...
This why, whenever I read about socio-economical inequality of African Americans/Latinos, I didn't actually write about it, because I am neither African American, nor am I Latino, I cannot convincingly argue about it...
This brings us to today... 9/11!
When 9/11 happened, I wasn't even in the continental United States!
Sure, I followed it on the TV screens in our office... but that was it!
This is why I believe I cannot convincingly write about 9/11 ... and so I shall not!
Instead... I shall leave the writing and telling about 9/11 to those individual who were in Manhattan on that fateful day, ten years ago, who experienced the dread of the rumbling ground as the towers collapsed. I shall leave the telling and writing about 9/11 to those individuals who were involved in the rescue and clean-up operations on Ground Zero after the collapse of the twin towers!
It is, after all, their memories that we honor on this day!
